ROXY ROCA Featured on Mashable: 11 Up-and-Coming Austin Musicians to Watch
Wow! We were very excited to see ROXY ROCA featured yesterday on Mashable.com in an article about Austin music, “Lone Stars: 11 Up-and-Coming Austin Musicians to Watch.” We were proud to be included along with such good company: Sweet Spirit, Spray Paint, Magna Carda, BLXPLTN, Tele Novella, Golden Dawn Arkestra, Israel Nash, Peterson Brothers Band, Riders Against the Storm, and Gina Chavez. Here’s what they had to say:
Ferguson’s next pick, seven-piece outfit Roxy Roca, brings us into the soul realm. “Roxy Roca are part of a handful of soul revivalists in Austin, but what distinguishes them from other acts is the tight funkiness of the band and the stage presence of lead singer Taye Cannon,” describes Ferguson.“With a slightly gravelly voice reminiscent of British blue-eyed soulsters like Rod Stewart, Cannon dresses sharp and works the stage like an impassioned Southern preacher. This band gigs as much as they can and has even been touring as of late, and everywhere they go their soulful, funky R&B infects crowds and brings out the dancer in all.”
